Nancy Murphy 1936 – 2022

Mrs. Nancy I. (Hames) Murphy, 86, of Sacramento, passed away at her home early Monday morning October 17, 2022. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Bristol, Connecticut, she was the daughter of Robert and Gladys Hames.

She was married to the late Stanley R. Murphy, Retired CMSGT in the United States Airforce.

Nancy traveled the world with her late husband and raised a family of 5 in Newfoundland, Canada, Virginia, Tokyo, Japan, Dayton, Ohio, Germany, and Rome, New York.

Nancy enjoyed a career in retail management working for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service and Bates Mill Store. She spent the last years of her career working for the State of California, Department of Justice.

After retiring, Nancy volunteered for Senior Gleaners Inc., which she really enjoyed. Nancy spent many of her years in the Sacramento area living in Rio Linda, where she enjoyed spending time with her friends, her horse Carly, her dog Mufasa, her cats Yanni, Snickers, Hercules, and Apollo, as well as her many chickens.

Nancy loved to travel and always looked forward to her trip to Joshua Tree National Park, one of her favorite places to visit to see the amazing night sky, rock formations, and Joshua Trees.

Nancy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Nancy is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Kenny Tyson, Carol Carter and Ronald Weekley, three sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew and Laureen Murphy, Matthew and Tara Murphy, and EJ and Michelle Murphy, ten grandchildren, Kristina Higdon, Jonathon Ray Griffin, Nicole Latimer and her husband Brendan, Derek Murphy and his wife Allie, Gabrielle Murphy, Madison Behn and her husband Zachary, Morgan Wilson and her husband Tyler, Shannon Murphy, Gage Murphy, Aidan Murphy, and three great-grandchildren, Lennox Higdon, Carter Latimer, and Cade Latimer. Nancy was predeceased by a daughter Karen Lee Murphy at the age of two on January 4, 1962.

The service will be held at Chapel of the Chimes, Sunset Lawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 10 am.
