Obituary: Lawrence Arnold “Larry” Risse (1928 – 2017)

Lawrence “Larry” Arnold Risse, age 89, passed away peacefully with his family by his side in Rio Linda, CA on December 6, 2017.

He was born in San Francisco on April 10, 1928 to Edward & Martha Risse and was one of thirteen children. His parents moved their family to Nebraska for several years and in 1938 back to California and settled in Rio Linda.

Larry was a star football player at Christian Brothers High School and met Carol Ann DeVore, the love of his life, in Rio Linda. They were married in 1951, built their home next door to his parents, and had seven children. Larry worked with his father and brothers as president in the family business Risse & Sons Plumbing for three decades. In 1976 Larry formed Phenix Plumbing, his sons Dan, Greg and his brother Ed worked beside him. In 1988 he sold the business to Dan & Greg who changed the name to RCI (Risse Construction Inc.), Larry retired from RCI in 2002 but his contributions to the company’s current success are immeasurable.

Larry is survived by brothers: John, Jim & Edward Risse, sisters: Mona Youngerman & Joan Risse, children: Dan Risse (Suzanne), Greg Risse (Michelle), Scott Risse, Dionne Delso (Joseph), Michael Risse & Carla Pollock (Michael), grandchildren: Heather Bazzocco (Aren), Dana Risse (Lisa), Amanda Jensen (Richard), Jake Klein, Casey Wright, Rebecca Risse, Alexander Virdee (Brandy), Hayden Wright, Cole Risse and Chantz Risse, great-grandchildren: Avery Bazzocco, Rhett Risse, CJ Wright, Serena Klein, Benjamin Bazzocco, Dani Risse, Alexa Virdee, Jaelinn Wright, Amarah Braga, Hadley Bazzocco, Caleb Wright, William Virdee, Augie Braga & Willow Virdee. He is predeceased by his wife Carol Ann Risse, his daughter Joline, grandson William Virdee and great grand-daughter Payton Hadley Bazzocco.

Larry was diagnosed with Dementia in 2008. Despite this diagnosis, Larry never missed a beat. He was loving and appreciative of everything and everyone around him. He never lost his incredible sense of humor or love of the dance floor. His strength and love of life and family was an inspiration to many and will remain his legacy.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 10:00 am at North Sacramento Funeral Home, 725 El Camino Ave., Sacramento followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00pm at St Joseph Catholic Church, 1717 El Monte Ave., Sacramento. Following the mass, the family will host a reception at 3:00pm at the Sacramento Turn Verein, 3349 J Street, Sacramento. Burial will be private at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
