Rio Linda Knights Dominate Foothill Mustangs 44 – 13, Host Ponderosa Bruins for Homecoming

Cameron Skattebo runs for one of his two touchdowns.

After a week off, and a week of lip service between Foothill and Rio Linda fans, the Knights visited Negri Field at Foothill High School and put on a running clinic.

The Knights put some uncertainty in the hearts of the Mustangs from the very first play of the game, as Abraham Banks returned the opening kickoff 90 yards to the house, and put the Knights up by seven with just 15 seconds burned in the first quarter. Banks would end the night with 178 yards on kick returns alone.

Banks would add a rushing touchdown on a QB sneak in the second quarter, and another kickoff return for a touchdown in the second half for good measure. Cameron Skattebo put up 287 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Jayden Davis also scored, giving the Knights four rushing touchdowns and 378 yards on the night.

(Unfortunately, Foothill doesn’t post statistics, so I can’t acknowledge their players here.)

Foothill took the final possession of the ball with about a minute remaining in the game, and asked the officials to run the clock.

Final score Rio Linda 44, Foothill 13.

Game Notes:

  • The Knights held the Foothill Mustangs scoreless until 5:04 left in the third quarter.
  • Kicker Erik Plascencia was injured in a penalized play, which sent WR/DB Kyle Deloney-Spencer in to kick a PAT late in the game.
  • Game video can be found at the Rio Linda Online Facebook page.

This week brings the Ponderosa Bruins to Rio Linda for Homecoming.

Their favorite targets are Jackson Hubert (#14) who has 186 yards and one touchdown, and Joe Gauthier (#5) who has 147 yards and one touchdown. They spread the ball around, with six different receivers scoring touchdowns this year.

In the ground game, they rely on Colin Taylor (#12), a 5-11, 190lb Senior who has 453 yards and 6 touchdowns this season. They spread the ball around in rushing as well, with ten players having yardage stats, and six of them have scored touchdowns.
